Choose the Right Ostomy Bag for Your Stoma

Ostomy Bags

A stoma is a pit/hole in the middle of your abdomen. This is a visible opening and a new organ in the body. It releases urine or feces and you need something to collect the discharge. Moreover, it also requires something to cover and protect it. For this purpose, patients need to wear an ostomy bag or pouch. This is a tool that will pick the waste content of the body, either solid, semi-solid, or liquid. Well, a person has an organic organ, called the anus to serve the same purpose. A normal and healthy person knows the bowel movement and can go to the toilet for the ejection of urine or stool. In the natural process, you do not need to wear anything on the anus. As you can straight pour the content directly into the commode seat. However, after having the ostomy operation, the hole appears on the abdomen, the exact location, size, and position depend on the kind of the surgery. Sometimes, surgeons fabricate the stoma on the lower right side, left side, or in the middle of the belly. So, you cannot eject the feces or pee directly into the loo. Every ostomy patient will have to wear a pouching system that will cover the opening, protect it from the dirt and external harmful environmental factors, and collect the stool or urine.

So, several types of ostomy bags and pouches are available in the market. A patient has to choose the appropriate one according to the stoma type, its size, shape, and appearance. Moreover, every stoma pouching system is not right for every ostomate. First, a patient will have to understand the attributes of the opening, needs of the peristomal skin, and the ostomy type.
