Ostomy Bags
A stoma is a pit/hole
in the middle of your abdomen. This is a visible opening and a new organ in the
body. It releases urine or feces and you need something to collect the
discharge. Moreover, it also requires something to cover and protect it. For
this purpose, patients need to wear an ostomy bag or pouch. This is a tool that
will pick the waste content of the body, either solid, semi-solid, or liquid.
Well, a person has an organic organ, called the anus to serve the same purpose.
A normal and healthy person knows the bowel movement and can go to the toilet
for the ejection of urine or stool. In the natural process, you do not need to
wear anything on the anus. As you can straight pour the content directly into
the commode seat. However, after having the ostomy operation, the hole appears
on the abdomen, the exact location, size, and position depend on the kind of
the surgery. Sometimes, surgeons fabricate the stoma on the lower right side,
left side, or in the middle of the belly. So, you cannot eject the feces or pee
directly into the loo. Every ostomy patient will have to wear a pouching system
that will cover the opening, protect it from the dirt and external harmful
environmental factors, and collect the stool or urine.
So, several types of
ostomy bags and pouches are available in the market. A patient has to choose
the appropriate one according to the stoma type, its size, shape, and
appearance. Moreover, every stoma pouching system is not right for every
ostomate. First, a patient will have to understand the attributes of the
opening, needs of the peristomal skin, and the ostomy type.

and replacing of the one-piece bag is easy as compared to the two-piece ostomy
pouch.

needs to remove the bag without removing the wafer/flanges. So, you can change
the flange after three or four days. Moreover, it has more variety than the
one-piece ostomy pouching system. This is appropriate for elderly patients or
the visually impaired.

that allow you to empty the content without removing the entire pouching
system. Thus, this is appropriate for ileostomy, urostomy, and elder patients.
You only need to drain the content with a tube or a drainage system. Moreover,
wear a new bag for four days.
Pre-Cut or Cut-to-fit Ostomy Bags
Pre-cut bags ensures
the sealing of the stoma. It does not allow the leakage to come out of the
pouch and damage the skin. Moreover, there is a round cut in the middle of the
sack that permits you to empty the bag and ideal for the perfect adjustment.
Opaque/Transparent Ostomy Bags
It is a comfortable
and friendly pouching system. Other people cannot see that you have something
under your clothes. Moreover, it has a matching color of your skin.

ostomy pouching system, you have two options for the flanges. Some people
prefer a flat wafer while a few need a curved or convex flange; thus, you can
choose according to your convenience.

Filtered ostomy bags
have small holes in the pouch. It allows the gas and odor to vent out from the
filter points. Thus, no gas accumulation, no pain, no smell, and no
embarrassment.
