Look Good with a Stoma

There is nothing that says you are confident that how you walk and look.  These are the tell tails of feeling good and imparting that feeling to others.  This is also one of the biggest fears of someone who just got out of an ostomy surgery.  The fear of not looking good or confident is something that everyone feels when they find out that a stoma and an ostomy bag are going to be their life long partners.  The fact is that having this fear is normal and completely ok.  The fear is also not necessarily something that should haunt you.  Looking good and being confident are completely possible even with a stoma and an ostomy bag.  Trust me you are going to look just like you want and have the capability of doing it.  So how do you go about doing this and getting on your way to looking amazing?

We first of all know that you are beautiful just the way you are.  No stoma can change that in any way shape or form.  You are a wonderful looking human.  Clothes and makeup don't make a good looking person, that comes from within and rather you believe it now, it is the truth.  Don't let having a stoma be an excuse for not loving yourself.  That is a normal thought and feeling, but you don't have to be afraid.  So let's go over some ways to stay hip and hot this year.

I found that I was honestly clueless about how to make myself feel and look good after my surgery.  I was honestly depressed and lost.  This is because I am not the most fashion-forward person to start with.  Try adding in an ostomy bag and I was totally lost.  That was normal and totally ok.  I felt like what most people feel during this time and luckily I was fortunate enough to find some good answers for myself.  The first place I went, was the internet and this was an amazing place to go for this type of information.

A google search on ostomy fashion will lead you down so many roads that you won't be able to learn enough.  There are many forums and dedicated Pinterest sights dedicated to all types of ostomy fashion.  Rather you are a Woman or a Man it simply does not matter.  There are countless options available to help guide you through some workable looks.  But I found it all to be a little two dimensional.  I like to see things in use and watch people working with them in real-time.  So I went onto social media to find out how to look good to me.

This led me first to Instagram where I found an amazing amount of people with ostomies sharing their lives and stories.  The pictures, comments and ability to communicate with these people was a huge help for me. I found people that dressed the way I wanted to and learned how they used their ostomy gear to their advantage in so many different ways.  This was big help but let's be honest, most of these people are paid to do it.  So be a bit careful on specific brands, but use the general ideas to your advantage.

I hope these tips help you feel and look amazing.
